Synopsis
Joan is an unconventional widow with a generous heart, a complicated love life, and one tiny little habit of improving the truth when reality becomes inconvenient.
She’s found love again with Sandy, a man who brings warmth, romance, and a little spark back into her life. There’s just one problem: her overbearing sister-in-law is determined to meddle, manage, and generally hover over Joan’s happiness like a one-woman neighborhood watch.
So Joan does what any perfectly reasonable romantic heroine would do under pressure: she introduces Sandy as her psychiatrist.
It is meant to be a simple cover story — one harmless little white lie to keep everyone calm, comfortable, and blissfully out of her business. Naturally, it does no such thing.
Before long, Joan’s cozy suburban home becomes the center of a fast-moving romantic comedy filled with mistaken identities, family interference, unexpected visitors, and increasingly ridiculous explanations. Every attempt to protect the romance only adds another layer to the confusion, until Joan finds herself juggling love, loyalty, dignity, and a fake doctor who is suddenly in very high demand.
Love, Lies & the Doctor’s Dilemma is a warm, crowd-pleasing romantic comedy for community theatres, dinner theatres, and companies looking for a balanced 3M/3F cast, one manageable suburban home setting, mature romance, family chaos, witty banter, and laugh-out-loud misunderstandings. This charming Parker Play proves that love may be patient, love may be kind — but love with a fake psychiatrist requires excellent timing.
"This play provides witty dialogue, fast paced action and two hours of memorable characters who are driven by little white lies told to protect themselves and those they love." - Susan Parker
