There's A Burglar In My Bed

A smart season pick for directors and producers looking for a fast-paced jewel-heist farce with a 3M/4F cast, one manageable estate cottage setting, strong comic roles, and a world-famous necklace that absolutely refuses to stay stolen.

If your audience enjoys the criminally funny chaos of A Fish Called Wanda and the jewel-heist sophistication of The Thomas Crown Affair, this romantic caper is ready to steal the show.

Synopsis

At the Worthington estate’s beach cottage, romance, robbery, and marital revenge are all checking in for the same weekend — which is terribly inconvenient, since no one bothered to compare calendars.

William Worthington III and his wife, Ashley, are estranged, suspicious, and both very attached to the family’s world-famous Worthington Necklace. Each has secretly arranged a romantic rendezvous at the cottage, and each has decided that if the marriage is ending, the necklace is absolutely not going with the other spouse.

Naturally, they both choose the same night to steal it.

With lovers sneaking in and out, divorce looming, and everyone determined to outsmart everyone else, the cottage quickly becomes a pressure cooker of secret plans, romantic double-crosses, and increasingly questionable decisions. Then the plot thickens with the arrival of a clumsy private detective, a counterfeit nun, and an overzealous flirt, each adding another layer of confusion to an already gloriously unstable evening.

Before long, the necklace is stolen, found, swapped, faked, and misplaced so often that keeping track of the real one becomes half the fun. As mistaken identities pile up and every new explanation sounds less believable than the last, the Worthingtons discover that love, money, and revenge make very poor roommates.

There’s A Burglar In My Bed is a fast-paced, crowd-pleasing jewel-heist farce for community theatres, dinner theatres, and companies looking for a lively 3M/4F cast, one manageable estate guest cottage setting, romantic complications, mistaken identities, physical comedy, innuendo, and rapid-fire reversals. This Parker Play gives directors and producers a producible comedy where everyone wants the necklace, nobody tells the truth, and the real treasure may be the chaos they create along the way.

"A rib-splitting, fast-paced show where each scene increases the audience buy-in and produces infectious laughter." - Susan Parker
